Metallica recently received backlash from young Stranger Things fans, who have been trying to cancel the band after discovering their past actions.

On July 15, 2016, the first season of sci-fi horror drama ‘Stranger Things’ aired on Netflix. After the first season, the second, third, and fourth seasons aired in October 2017, July 2019, and May and July 2022, respectively. In the final episode of the fourth, one of the characters named Eddie Munson played Metallica’s ‘Master Of Puppets’ and introduced the band to a young audience.

Munson’s ‘Master Of Puppets’ performance featured guitar tracks played by Rob Trujillo’s son Tye Trujillo. Ultimately, this performance brought Tye into the spotlight and made Metallica rise in the music charts again with its timeless hit. Although many liked this version of the 1986 song, some Stranger Things fans weren’t that pleased.

Recently, a TikTok user named Serena Trueblook posted a video about Metallica’s past controversies. In the video, she showed footage of Jason Newsted doing a Nazi salute and marching during a show, band members joking about Kurt Cobain’s death, and claims that James Hetfield used the N-word to describe rapper Ice-T and deliberately excluded him from a tour.

In the post, Trueblood also argued Metallica only cares about gatekeeping in their fandom and earning money. After this TikTok, Metallica fans took to Twitter to defend the band against the canceling attempt. One of the fans stated that Metallica welcomed young Stranger Things fans, but they’ve turned against them.

Here’s what the Twitter user said:

“The fact Metallica welcomed and defended all the new fans that came from the Stranger Things fandom, and they’ve gone and thrown in back in their faces.”

The caption of Serena Trueblood’s TikTok read:

“I find it interesting that they only cared about gatekeeping in their fandom when they started getting big again from Stranger Things. They only care about what lines their pockets.
