Mercyful Fate has announced their first live show in more than three years. The return marks a significant comeback for the Danish heavy metal legends, whose last performance took place at Brazil’s Summer Breeze festival in April 2024.
The band shared the news directly with fans, confirming their appearance at a major European rock festival in 2027.
“España! Mercyful Fate will be playing Leyendas Del Rock Festival 2027! We will see you next August. Stay Heavy!”
The announcement signals a long-awaited comeback for one of heavy metal’s most iconic acts. The band will return to the European stage for the first time since their 2024 South American appearance.
The show will take place at Leyendas Del Rock Festival, scheduled for August 11–14, 2027, in Villena, Alicante, Spain. The festival is held annually at the Polideportivo Municipal, a long-established venue that has hosted the event since it relocated to Villena in 2013.
Mercyful Fate will co-headline the festival alongside Architects. Both acts are among the first confirmed marquee names for the 2027 edition. The pairing places two distinctly different but equally influential acts at the top of the bill, signaling an ambitious lineup for the upcoming festival year.
The band returning to the stage is the King Diamond-fronted reunion lineup. This is the same core configuration that has handled all of the group’s recent live activity. King Diamond, the band’s iconic vocalist and founder, has been central to Mercyful Fate’s revival since their reunion brought the classic lineup back together after a lengthy hiatus.
Mercyful Fate’s live appearances have been relatively rare in recent years, making the Leyendas Del Rock booking a notable event for fans across Europe. With the 2027 festival still roughly a year away, further lineup announcements are expected in the months ahead.
