Maynard James Keenan Believes People Haven’t Grasped His Upcoming Project

Maynard James Keenan has announced an upcoming project related to Merkin Vineyards and Caduceus Cellars, set to start in the Verde Valley American Viticultural Area on October 6. Talking about it with Wine Enthusiast, he gave insights into his new investment by saying:

“Partly what this is going to provide is a setting to physically see the vines growing. People haven’t really connected the dots with what to expect from an Arizona wine, what’s doing well, and how they express.”

Keenan said the project, spanning a 7-acre area, will offer visitors a view into the wine-making process with a new winery and cellar, a tasting room, a restaurant, retail spaces, a greenhouse, and a gelateria.

According to him, the facility will include an 8,000-case production and detailed plans for a barrel room with six custom concrete fermentation and aging cubes. Additionally, the tasting room giving visitors a chance to taste select wines with limited appointments will help promote Arizona wine:

“There are many people in the state that are making great wines with incredible commitment to quality and connection, a sense of place. But sometimes you need a couple of bells and whistles to get it to resonate outside the state.”
