During the 1975’s performance at Madison Square Garden in New York on November 15, Matt Healy expressed his disappointment with the Grammys for failing to nominate the band this year and hailed Kanye West as a hero.
The frontman spoke to the crowd, saying:
“The fact we didn’t get nominated for a Grammy is a f*cking outrage. The reason people don’t say that is because it’s not a very tasteful thing to say. But I’m way past tasteful. Are you f*cking mental?! Are they f*cking mental?! ‘A Brief Inquiry…’, ‘I Like It When You Sleep…’ – nothing. F*ck off! D—heads. What the f*ck are they on about?”
Healy’s Pick For A Deserving Grammy And Unconventional Hero

He added, revealing which song was worthy of a Grammy:
“I mean, [2022 single] ‘About You’ just on its own merits deserves a f*cking Grammy. I mean, I don’t really care that much, but it just winds me up. It f*cking winds me up.”
Healy went on to explain why Kanye is his hero:
“I tell you what, tell me of anybody who’s been nominated in the past four years… y’know what I’m not being self-celebratory, but Kanye [West] is one of my heroes; you’ve got to f*cking believe in yourself. That’s an awkward hero to have right now, I understand that. But separate the antisemitism, just think about the self-belief.”
Matty lastly said the following:
“Tell me, literally tell me one band in the past four years who could do what we’re gonna do in the next three minutes.”
West’s Grammy Legacy

West holds a distinguished position as one of the most awarded hip-hop artists in Grammy history, sharing 24 wins with Jay-Z.
The 1975 launched their new album ‘Being Funny In A Foreign Language’ in October 2022, just after the qualification period for the 2024 Grammys began. Additionally, the lead vocalist said that since the band’s formation in 2002, the 1975 has yet to secure a Grammy Award.
