Trivium frontman Matt Heafy says the band’s upcoming album is fully recorded, mixed, and mastered, and he described it as their most mature work yet. He told Kerrang about the project in a recent interview.

Heafy praised the record as containing the biggest songs Trivium has ever written. He explained that the album was nearly complete before the band’s festival appearances over the summer, but they chose not to play the new material at those shows.

“The album is 100 per cent recorded, mixed, mastered, ready to go,” Heafy said. “The record is all done, and it’s amazing. Now I’m just itching to get it out and for people to listen. It was pretty much done before the festival run this summer. We really wanted to play the new stuff at those shows, like Download, but we knew it wasn’t time yet. So, we’ve had to sit on it. We’re sitting on our best material of all time and we’re not able to play it yet. I’m really excited for when we’re actually able to show people what we’ve done. It’s a lot to look forward to.”

Heafy went on to describe what makes this album different from Trivium’s previous releases. “Every record we’ve ever released, I’ve always said, ‘This is our best record.’ But this time there’s something different with it,” he continued. “Maturity-wise, these are definitely the best songs we’ve ever written. Strip away the production, technicality and riffs, boil it down to an acoustic song with a vocal, and it’s still the best-sounding stuff we’ve ever had. Of course, it’s very ‘us’, but I think that’s the best way I can really describe it right now with it being so fresh. This one, it’s all about the songs. It’s all about having the biggest songs we’ve ever managed to write, and there’s so much intricacy within the simplicity on this. I don’t want to give away anything in terms of comparing it to records by any means. But, I guess as exciting or enraging as this may be, it’s not like anything we’ve ever done before, either, while still feeling like us.”

Heafy’s enthusiasm for the record has not swayed all listeners. Some fans online have expressed skepticism about the upcoming release. One wrote, “If it’s anything like the two singles I’m not too optimistic.” Another added, “Yea, but the first 2 singles are undeniably boring. Are you sure you are writing the best material?” A third commenter said, “If you have to talk up your album this much, it’s probably not worth the talk lol.”

The comments came as Heafy spoke publicly about the finished record for the first time. Fans remain divided on what the album will deliver.

Crown In The Grave is Trivium’s follow-up to 2021’s In The Court Of The Dragon. The album marks the first full-length recording with drummer Alex Rudinger, who joined the band in October 2025. Rudinger replaced Alex Bent, whose final recording with Trivium was the three-song EP “Struck Dead,” released in October 2025 and tracked at the band’s newly built Hangar Studios in Orlando, Florida.

The band reconnected with Rudinger after having known him for over a decade. Rudinger’s work both in the studio and on stage has strengthened Trivium’s output as they prepare for the new era of the band. The group worked with longtime producer Josh Wilbur and mixer Jacob Hansen for the first time on this record.

Crown In The Grave arrives on November 20 through Roadrunner Records. The single “Dead Inside of Me” has been teasing the band’s 11th full-length album ahead of its release later this month.
