Eller’s statement reflected on Hinds’ profound influence on his musical career and the honor of performing in his place.
“I am deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Brent Hinds. He was truly a one-of-a-kind player,” Eller said. “The music he made with Mastodon is profoundly important to me. His incredibly unique chord voicings, hybrid picking technique, and wild bluesy soloing have influenced my identity as a player and inspired millions.”
Eller also shared his experience of stepping in for Hinds at a recent festival performance.
“Getting to stand in for him at the Tool in the Sand Festival this March was my proudest moment in my musical career so far,” he continued. “It was extremely difficult to try and fill his shoes to deliver a great show for the fans, and an absolute honor.”
“I never knew Brent personally. But I hope he knew how much of an impact his playing made on me and so many others,” Eller concluded. “Thanks for all the music, Brent. Rest easy.”
