Mastodon has announced that John Baizley, vocalist and guitarist of Baroness, will join the band on stage during their upcoming Poisonous Weapons Tour. The announcement follows a pre-tour warm-up show at The Earl in Atlanta, GA on September 11th, where Baizley made a guest appearance. Mastodon explained how the collaboration came about and what fans can expect on the tour.
“We had a blast at the Earl last night!” Mastodon said. “A great pre-tour warm up before we break out the lasers and LED screens.”
The band went on to detail the significance of the guest appearance and what led to the invitation for the tour.
“Our good pal, John Baizley from Baroness joined us, we had so much fun, we’ve invited him join us on stage during The Poisonous Weapons Tour to play a special set of Mastodon songs we haven’t played in a long time!” Mastodon continued. “We’re really excited to bring this special set on the tour. It’s going to epic! Who’s ready to party?”
Baizley’s involvement adds a fresh dimension to a run that already carries plenty of significance for Mastodon.
The Poisonous Weapons Tour marks a 27-date North American trek in support of Mastodon’s ninth studio album, Marrow Deep. Deafheaven and Alcest round out the bill as special guests, giving the tour a heavyweight lineup spanning multiple corners of the metal and post-metal spectrum.
The run kicks off on September 16th in Orlando, Florida at Hard Rock Live. It continues through late October, closing out on October 24th at the Sick New World festival in Dallas, Texas. In between, the tour makes stops in cities including Asheville, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, and Atlanta, giving fans across the country multiple chances to catch Baizley’s nightly appearance.
Baizley’s onstage union with Mastodon began as a one-off moment at The Earl. It quickly evolved into something more permanent. What started as an intimate club performance has now been extended into a recurring feature throughout the tour. Baizley is set to appear alongside the band at each stop rather than in a single guest slot.
The pairing underscores the long-standing camaraderie between Mastodon and Baroness, two bands that have shared stages and mutual respect for years. Marrow Deep has been freshly released, and the tour is now underway. The addition of Baizley’s special set promises to make an already highly anticipated run even more memorable for fans.
