Lily Collins On Taking Advantage Of Her Father Phil Collins’ Fame

While being a celebrity’s child can be both positive and negative in different situations, it is usually seen as a shortcut to effortlessly standing out among many people. Genesis icon Phil Collins’ daughter Lily also stepped into show business and starred in several productions, including Netflix’s ‘Emily in Paris.’ Speaking to Vogue France in a recent interview, the actress opened up about the impact of her father’s fame on her career.

“It was out of the question that people would think that I use a free pass thanks to my name,” Lily said about being Phil Collins’ daughter. She then noted, “I’m proud of my dad, but I wanted to be me, not just his daughter. For that, I was ready to wait to break through.”

Then, Lily stressed that she had worked hard to get somewhere in her acting career rather than relying on her family name to achieve success. The actress added, “By dint of failed castings, I learned to focus more on my work, and I managed to make acting my job. But I’m not resting on my laurels: this environment is very competitive, and places are expensive.”

Lily Collins decided to build a career in acting rather than in the music scene. When asked about this choice of not following in her father’s footsteps as a singer elsewhere in the interview, Lily explained that she also loved singing but wanted to find her own path. Although she also starred in several musicals, the actress is afraid of being compared to her father for her singing abilities.
