A fan asked Gallagher why Fontaines D.C. were not chosen to open for Oasis. The question prompted a direct response about the Irish post-punk band’s suitability as a support act.

Question: “Why didn’t you book Fontaines D.C. to open for Oasis?”

“They’re not good enough they don’t have any tunes,” Liam Gallagher said.

Fontaines D.C. bassist Conor Deegan III had previously offered his own view on Oasis’ return. “I’m not excited about it, to be honest,” he said. “I feel like we get caught in the last era – like the ’10s – and into such a nostalgic thing that we’re forgetting to make new things. I feel like what we were wanting to do with this record [‘Romance’] anyway was to look into the future and make new things… So for Oasis to reform at this moment for us is really annoying.”

Gallagher made his remarks about the band in the lead-up to Oasis’ Live ’27 tour.

Fontaines D.C. are an Irish rock band formed in Dublin. The group released their fourth studio album, Romance, on 23 August 2024 on XL Recordings. The album was produced by James Ford and marked their first release after leaving Partisan Records, the label that signed them in 2018.

Oasis announced their reunion on 27 August 2024 and launched the Live ’25 Tour, which ran from 4 July 2025 to 23 November 2025. The tour was a major commercial success, earning $525,282,160 and attracting over two million attendees, making it the second-highest-grossing and third-most-attended tour of 2025. Richard Ashcroft was selected as the support act for those shows and will serve the same role for the Live ’27 Tour, which was announced on 14 September 2026.

Gallagher has previously criticized Fontaines D.C., referring to band members as “little spunkbubles” and making comments about their appearance. The Oasis frontman has also defended his decisions on support act selection more broadly, telling fans who questioned his choices that “there’s LEVELS to this game” and that most people do not understand how those decisions are made.
