Les Claypool has revealed Primus’s attempt to recruit drummer Veronica Bellino in a recent video on Primus’ official YouTube channel.
“Another drummer that we wanted to get was Veronica Bellino. She was ripping. And somebody had submitted for her, which we didn’t realize,” Claypool said. “So when we contact her, she was excited and flattered, I guess, or I heard.”
“But she has a gig that I guess is doing very well. And she just didn’t see changing her life to come ride around with couple of fellow like us,” he continued. “But it would have been nice to get her out. She was bada**.”
The revelation emerged during Primus’s search for new band members. The band has shown interest in diversifying their lineup with talented musicians regardless of gender.
Bellino’s established career path played a key role in her decision to decline the offer. Modern Drummer reported that she joined Life of Agony in January 2018 as a replacement for longtime member Sal Abruscato.
Her career achievements extend well beyond her current position. Yamaha Artists highlighted Bellino’s collaborations with several high-profile musicians. Her work includes performances with Jeff Beck, DMC, and LL Cool J, showcasing her versatility across musical genres.
Blabbermouth noted that Bellino’s recruitment marked a significant milestone in Life of Agony’s history. She has since become an integral part of their current lineup and success.
Bellino’s commitment to Life of Agony and her extensive collaboration portfolio have built a stable career path. This stability influenced her decision to maintain her current projects instead of joining Primus’s touring schedule.
