Canadian metal band Kittie has announced the release of their new EP ‘Spit XXV’ to commemorate the 25th anniversary of their groundbreaking debut album ‘Spit’. The announcement was shared on Instagram.
The band revealed that the EP features reimagined versions of favorite tracks from their original album. The official release date is set for September 19, 2025.
Lead vocalist Morgan Lander reflected on the enduring impact of their debut album and the significance of this anniversary project.
“It’s hard to believe that 25 years after its release, and almost 30 years since Kittie began, people are still talking about ‘Spit’,” Lander said. “There is something truly unexplainable in why our debut album is still resonating with people, finding a new audience, and has had such a lasting impact on so many.”
The vocalist also discussed the creative process behind reimagining these classic songs for the modern era.
“Reimagining some of these classic songs for the 25th anniversary of ‘Spit’ was a lot of fun and a true testament to their longevity,” she continued. “It reveals just how relevant in the musical landscape they still are today. We were honored to work with Garth agai,n where it all began after more than two decades, and doing so was a cool way to pay homage to the past while updating these songs with a modern sound, bringing them into the future.”
This anniversary release represents more than just a nostalgic look back for the Canadian metal pioneers. It showcases both their evolution as artists and the enduring power of their original material.
Nu Metal Agenda reported that the EP specifically features four reimagined tracks: “Spit,” “Do You Think I’m A Whore?,” “Brackish,” and “Charlotte.” These selections represent some of the most impactful songs from their debut. They allow fans to experience familiar favorites with the band’s current musical perspective and refined production techniques.
The original ‘Spit’ album holds significant historical importance in the metal scene. Blabbermouth noted that the album was initially released in 1999 when the band members were still teenagers. This made their impact on the metal community even more remarkable. The debut showcased their raw energy and helped establish them as pioneers in the nu-metal movement.
The current lineup bringing these classic songs to life includes the Lander sisters alongside newer members who have helped shape Kittie’s modern sound. Brave Words revealed that the band’s current formation features Tara McLeod on guitar and Ivy Jenkins on bass. They work alongside founding members Morgan and Mercedes Lander to create these updated versions.
The collaboration with producer Garth Richardson, who worked on the original album, adds another layer of authenticity to the project. This reunion allows the band to maintain the essence of their original sound. It also incorporates the technical improvements and artistic growth they’ve achieved over the past 25 years.
