In an interview with Heavy, Kip Winger discussed the content and quality of his band’s upcoming album. The musician explained what inspired the creation of the new album and how it reflects what fans would expect from a Winger album, including its lyrics, sound, and lineup.
Winger released their last album, ‘Better Days Comin’,’ in 2014 and has been relatively quiet for the last nine years. Apart from a few shows, they did not announce any new projects until 2021, when they revealed they were working on their seventh album. Now, they are coming back with a brand new record called ‘Seven,’ which will be released on May 5, and their fans are overjoyed.
Kip Winger recently increased the fans’ anticipation and enthusiasm with new information about the album. In his recent interview, he stated that ‘Seven’ would be a balanced mix between their first and third albums with excellent playing, reflecting what would be expected from a Winger project. The band’s vocalist also revealed that this album was created by all the original members of Winger, including Paul Taylor, who was not present in their previous one.
The musician’s words on the matter read:
“The album is very definitely aimed at a combination of the first self-titled album and the third album, ‘Pull,’ with a little bit of what came after that. We went for the inspiration of the first album and the depth of songwriting on the third album and tried to find a happy balance in that. The album features all of the original members, including Paul Taylor, and each member is playing on every single song, so it’s the ultimate recipe of all things Winger. There [are] 12 songs on it, all of which we’re happy with. I was insistent on there being no filler. There’s a lot of really good playing… I’m not really a player myself anymore. I worked on the singing very hard, but there’s a lot of great guitar playing, a lot of great drumming, a lot of things that you might expect from our band, and like I say, it encapsulates the full what you might expect from a Winger album but trying to set a higher bar.”
It appears that Winger will be back with full force after nine years of silence and please their audience with a new album that encapsulates their style, tone, and quality. There’s no doubt that the band’s fans will enjoy the songs, which will act as bridges between old and new when ‘Seven’ is released this May.
