Kevin Cronin recently addressed criticism regarding his use of the REO Speedwagon name for his solo projects. He responded to fan concerns in a statement shared on Facebook.
The response came after a fan questioned why Cronin continues to use “Kevin Cronin of REO Speedwagon” instead of identifying himself with a different band name, given his departure from the group.
The REO fan said, “Shouldn’t this page be called Kevin Cronin of The Kevin Cronin Band [instead of Kevin Cronin of REO Speedwagon]? You aren’t in REO anymore; you chose to end the band rather than share a stage with Bruce [Hall] again. Stop using the name.”
“Bruce and I have simply not been able to agree on how REO should best move forward,” Cronin said. “And we both feel very passionately.”
The musician also addressed the accuracy of the fan’s criticism directly.
“Of course you are entitled to your opinion, but your comment is inaccurate,” he continued.
The exchange highlights ongoing tensions between former REO Speedwagon members and questions about the band’s future direction.
This public dispute stems from deeper issues that led to the band’s official end. Ultimate Classic Rock reported that REO Speedwagon officially ceased touring as a band effective January 1, 2025, due to irreconcilable differences between Cronin and bassist Bruce Hall. This occurred despite Hall expressing readiness to return.
Following the band’s dissolution, Cronin has begun performing solo shows featuring classic REO Speedwagon songs. The Music Universe noted that his first solo concert was announced for January 25, 2025, at WinStar World Casino and Resort in Oklahoma. He described these performances as part of “exciting adventures” ahead. He emphasized his commitment to preserving the band’s musical legacy despite past disagreements.
However, the transition to solo touring has presented significant challenges for the veteran musician. Big Cheese 107.9 revealed that Cronin admitted ticket sales are harder without the REO Speedwagon brand. This has led to cancellations of some shows and uncertainty over future touring plans.
Despite these obstacles, Cronin remains focused on his musical future. Ultimate Classic Rock detailed that he continues making new music and supporting his current band members. He is also considering completing his memoir about his decades-long career with one of rock’s most enduring bands.
