Phil Demmel, the guitarist for Kerry King’s solo band, expressed surprise at the recent revelation that Slayer is reuniting for several festival performances this year.
In a new interview with Good Company, he was asked about the recently announced Slayer performances that came a really short time after the announcements of King’s solo project. As it appears, it came as a surprise to him since King kept it a secret. Demmel explained:
“Yeah, it caught me off guard. I didn’t know anything about it. To have a Slayer gig announced before we’ve even played a show [with Kerry King’s solo band] was really weird to me.”
He continued:
“Slayer’s none of my business — the ‘why’s and the ‘when’s, it’s none of my business. I had questions when I first heard [Slayer was coming back], and they were answered. And I’m a hundred percent at peace and good with everything that’s happening.”
Slayer Is NOT On Tour

In February, King dropped a few hints pointing out that Slayer would be back. On February 21, the band confirmed the hints. While fans thought Slayer was back with a tour, it later turned out to be only ‘some dates.’ Gary Holt’s wife, Lisa Holt, shared the news on her Facebook page. Some fans thought the band was out of many and some thought the disbandment was a lie.
The band has currently revealed only two scheduled dates – the Riot Fest in Chicago on September 22 and the Louder Than Life festival in Louisville, Kentucky, five days afterward. The Chicago performance is promoted as the band’s ‘exclusive Midwestern performance,’ suggesting there might be additional dates in the future.
