Former Slayer guitarist Kerry King discussed various rock and metal bands in a recent interview with Rolling Stone Brasil.

A series of comparative questions prompted King to choose between different legendary bands. The discussion began with a choice between Rainbow and The Offspring.

King revealed his journey with The Offspring: “I missed out on Offspring for like 15 years. And then I’m like, ‘You know what? I’m not mad at these guys. I’ve never met these guys. What not give them a chance?’ And now, I’m a huge Offspring fan. But I’d still say Rainbow.”

The interviewer continued with more challenging choices for King.

“That’s really difficult. Because those guys are all friends of mine. I still gotta go Rainbow,” King said about choosing between Rainbow and Lamb of God. He stayed loyal to Rainbow when Sepultura entered the conversation. “Cavalera is going to be playing our Hershey, Pennsylvania show. I’m looking forward to seeing that.”

Black Sabbath’s entry marked a turning point in the discussion.

“I was hoping you would go somewhere where I could get off the Rainbow,” King admitted. “How can you not pick Sabbath ‘cuz everything came from Black Sabbath.”

The final choice between Black Sabbath and Judas Priest revealed King’s ultimate allegiance. “Judas Priest! I knew it was coming. Rob Halford, I’ve told you this a million times, my favorite singer, and I think the best metal singer of all time.”

King’s consistent preference for Rainbow throughout the interview emphasized the band’s lasting impact on the metal scene.

Research from uDiscover Music highlighted Rainbow’s vital role in shaping heavy metal and hard rock. The band created a distinctive sound by blending rock with classical influences.

The band’s history features an impressive roster of vocalists. Ronnie James Dio, Graham Bonnet, and Joe Lynn Turner each brought unique vocal styles to the group.

Documentation from uDiscover Music revealed Rainbow’s commercial peak. Their album “Straight Between the Eyes” reached the UK Top 10. The record produced the rock radio hit “Stone Cold.”

Guitarist Ritchie Blackmore founded Rainbow. The band’s influence continues to impact modern metal artists. Kerry King’s unwavering appreciation throughout the interview demonstrates this lasting legacy.
