Kelly Osbourne opened up about the final days she shared with her father, Black Sabbath legend Ozzy Osbourne, before his passing. She revealed a promise he made to her just days before he died.
Osbourne explained that her father seemed to sense his death was approaching and had been preparing her for it in the time leading up to his passing.
“Let me tell you this, my dad knew he was going out. He knew he went out exactly the way he wanted to. And he was prepping me along the way he was,” Kelly Osbourne said. “Everything he told me would happen has happened. Everything he warned me of, every person he told me to stay away from, everything. And I was just like, ‘Wow.’ Like, ‘You really didn’t miss a beat, did you?'”
She then recalled the most meaningful conversation the two shared, just three days before he died.
“But the most meaningful thing he ever said to me is that he sat me down. And this was about 3 days before he died. He said, ‘I need you to know something… No matter what happens in this life, you can live the rest of your life knowing that there was one man on this planet that truly loved you for every single thing that you are. And that man is me,'” she continued. “And I started to cry and I said, ‘Please don’t talk like this. Please don’t talk like this.’ Cuz he said, ‘You know, I’m not going to be here forever. And I know you struggle with people and actually believing that you are loved, but I loved you more than anyone.’ And 3 days later, he was gone.”
Osbourne also spoke about why performing his farewell “Back to the Beginning” show meant so much to her father, despite doctors’ warnings about the risk it posed to his health.
“I have to preface this story with my mom allowed him to die the happiest I’d ever seen him. All he wanted before he left this planet was one last show, one more time to be able to let his fans know how grateful he was for the life they allowed him to have and how much he loved them,” she said. “And he got to say goodbye and he got to say thank you. And that’s all he wanted to do. And then he let go. Shortly thereafter. Two weeks after. They told him, ‘If you do this show, you’ll die.’ And he chose to do it anyway. Because it meant more to him than anything.”
She added that her father had been enduring significant physical suffering in his final days.
“And he was suffering so much his day-to-day life. It was insufferable. Nobody should have to live like that to be in that much pain and be unable to walk and like your mind is all there but your body just doesn’t work,” Osbourne said.
Kelly’s account of her father’s final days lines up with the timeline of events that unfolded around Ozzy’s passing. Ozzy died on July 22, 2025, at age 76. His cause of death was later attributed to a heart attack, with cardiac arrest, coronary artery disease, and Parkinson’s disease cited as contributing factors.
The “Back to the Beginning” performance she referenced was the historic Black Sabbath reunion concert held at Villa Park in Birmingham on July 5, 2025. It marked the first time in decades that Ozzy performed alongside original bandmates Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward. It turned out to be the last time the four men ever shared a stage together.
The show came just 17 days before Ozzy’s death, a fact that has since taken on added weight given how insistent he was on going through with it despite the medical risks. Tony Iommi has separately revealed that Ozzy told him he felt “tired and really worn out” in a final conversation the two shared just hours before Ozzy passed away.
Ozzy had been battling serious health issues for years leading up to his death, including a 2019 spinal injury and a 2020 Parkinson’s disease diagnosis, both of which severely limited his mobility in his final years. Despite that decline, he was determined to give his fans one last chance to see him perform, a wish Kelly says his family fully supported even knowing the toll it could take on him.
