The Vaccines vocalist Justin Young recently recalled the life-changing advice he got from Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea while talking to Radio X.

The band, who recently announced their upcoming album, ‘Pick-Up Full of Pink Carnations,’ had opened for RHCP in Europe in the early 2010s.

So, while discussing those touring days, Young decided to speak up about an important piece of advice Flea gave him and his bandmates. Before that, however, the singer first explained why he felt ‘lucky’ to have opened for RHCP:

“I think that we’ve been lucky enough to open up for some of the biggest acts on the planet, and I think whenever you do, there are things that you learn from them all. You see how they all interact and act around each other, and some have more healthy dynamics than others.”

He then recalled Flea’s advice and how the rocker had explained the secret behind RHCP’s success:

“Funnily enough, I remember, not that we became fast friends or spent much time with them, but the one bit of advice that Flea gave to us during a five-minute conversation was, [he said] ‘The way that you guys are going to have a career is by making sure when things aren’t great that you are still getting in a room together every day and writing and rehearsing.’

[Flea said] ‘Whether it means fighting every day, going through all that stuff because ultimately that’s what leads to the great times again. You have to be strong enough and have thick enough skin to go through all that bad stuff together because, ultimately, it leads to good stuff.’ That’s [the advice] something that’s always stuck with me as well.”

The Vaccines are currently getting ready for a European tour, which will start next year, while RHCP is currently on tour in South America with upcoming dates in Brazil.
