Justin Hawkins Recalls Tina Turner’s ‘Subtle’ Excuse To Reject The Darkness

Tina Turner has collaborated with some of the top names in the rock scene throughout her years in the industry. The Darkness singer Justin Hawkins recently revealed that Turner turned them down in an episode of his podcast. He said:

“I think The Darkness actually asked Tina Turner if she would contribute to a collaboration of that nature, a duet we were looking to do on our second record, she was not interested, and I think that’s fair enough. She made a very, very kind excuse, though.”

Although Hawkins wouldn’t have said no to a collaboration, he understood why Tina passed on their offer; he added:

“It’s because we were working with Roy Thomas Baker at the time we had some contact with her, and we were able to reach out at least, but she knocked us back, and I think that’s fair enough is probably for the best, I understand. I’ll always love Tina Turner, and I hope you do too. It’s a sad day. Rest in peace, Tina; excellent work.”

Justin’s comments about Turner came after the news of the singer’s passing at 83 after suffering from illnesses for a long time. Following the unexpected news, her representative released this statement:

“Tina Turner, the ‘Queen of Rock’n Roll,’ has died peacefully today at the age of 83 after a long illness in her home in Kusnacht near Zurich, Switzerland. With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model.”
