Josh Klinghoffer Replaces Matt Cameron During A Recent Pearl Jam Show

Pearl Jam’s newer recruit Josh Klinghoffer put his guitar aside and sat on the stool to play his part in a few songs in one show after long-term drummer Matt Cameron recently contracted Covid.

Josh Klinghoffer joined Pearl Jam after leaving Red Hot Chili Peppers following John Frusciante’s return to the band. The guitarist had no hard feelings, but he had been a part of RHCP for twelve years, so it was sad to see him go. However, the fans were happy when he joined Pearl Jam as they would still be seeing him performing and creating with yet another iconic band.

He made his entrance to Pearl Jam in 2021 and joined the Sea.Hear.Now Festival. Currently, he is on stage promoting the band’s most recent album ‘Gigaton,’ released on March 27, 2020. Nevertheless, Pearl Jam had an unfortunate incident where their long-time drummer Matt Cameron contracted COVID-19 and could not perform.

Instead of the drummer, the band members took turns playing the drums for specific songs. Klinghoffer played in their classic songs like ‘Corduroy’ and ‘Better Man’ from the band’s 1994 album ‘Vitalogy.’ Later, the band’s bassist Josh Arroyo took the stool. The band shared a snipped of the show with other drummers on their Instagram accounts.

Here is what Pearl Jam wrote in the caption of their Instagram video:

“And the beat goes on. Thanks to Pluralone, Richard Stuverud, and Joshua Arroyo for providing the rhythm for Oakland night.”

Matt Cameron has been in Pearl Jam since 1998, and this is the first show he missed since then. Even though the pandemic restrictions have eased and crowded places are not as controlled as they used to be, the virus still exists and can hold a rocker back from performing. Cameron was one of the unlucky ones that contracted it during a tour.
