Jonathan Cain recently shared his heartfelt thoughts about Journey’s ongoing Final Frontier tour, which he has announced will be his last with the legendary rock band, in a statement posted on Instagram.
The keyboardist expressed his gratitude to fans and reflected on the meaningful connection he feels during live performances.
“It’s been so great to be back out on the road and on tour again, playing music and connecting with all of you,” Cain said. “There’s nothing like being in the room together, sharing these moments city after city and feeling the energy from the crowd.”
He continued with a message of appreciation for the band’s dedicated fanbase.
“Thank you for all the love and support — it truly means more than you know,” he added.
Cain had previously explained his decision to step away from touring, citing his desire to focus on his personal life at this stage of his career.
“It’s time for me, at my age. I wanna live my life, and the road just is so consuming and it just seems like a good time to get off, for me,” he said. “And I just love our fans, and I wanna do it in a proper farewell, to say goodbye.”
Cain’s departure marks the end of an era for Journey. He has been an integral part of the band’s success for over four decades.
Concert footage from the tour revealed that the Final Frontier North American Tour kicked off earlier this month. The band already performed their fourth show at Cure Insurance Arena in Trenton, New Jersey, on March 5, 2026. The tour represents Cain’s final opportunity to connect with fans across the country before stepping away from the demanding touring schedule.
Cain joined Journey in 1980 and quickly became a cornerstone of the band’s creative process. His contributions helped define Journey’s sound during their most successful period. He co-wrote some of their most beloved anthems including “Don’t Stop Believin’,” which became one of the most recognizable rock songs of all time.
Throughout his tenure with Journey, Cain has been part of the band’s evolution from arena rock pioneers to stadium-filling legends. His keyboard work and songwriting abilities have been essential to Journey’s enduring appeal. This helped the band maintain their relevance across multiple generations of fans.
The Final Frontier tour serves as both a celebration of Journey’s legacy and a farewell to one of its most important members. Fans are witnessing the end of one of rock music’s most successful partnerships as Cain prepares to close this chapter of his career.
