Jon Bon Jovi recently opened up about his cautious approach to touring. He explained why he’s refusing to add more dates in 2026 despite overwhelming demand, in a statement shared on Billboard.
The rock legend discussed his recovery process and the current state of his voice. He emphasized his commitment to taking things slow.
“The recovery was much longer than anticipated. Am fully healed, finally, and so I’m going back to it and…gonna start slow. To be honest, there was many a time I thought (the recovery) was good enough and the inner circle would say, ‘No, it’s not good enough,'” Bon Jovi said.
He continued to describe the challenging moments during his recovery journey.
“And there’s be times when I’d get down and want to throw the towel in, and they’d say, ‘No, you’ve made too much progress.’ And I just stayed diligent ’til it got to a point where I’m 102% confident that it’s really not an issue anymore, thank God,” he explained.
Despite massive demand from fans and promoters, Bon Jovi remains firm in his decision to wait.
“Everybody’s already ‘please, please, please,’ and the answer is ‘nope.’ It’s quite a statistic…Three Wembley shows, 80,000 a night, nine Gardens sold out in a day. It’s like, holy Christmas, the demand is there. But I’m not rushing this. I am going to take my time, gonna enjoy it. Then in ’27, based in joy and gratitude and humility, we’ll go out,” he stated.
The singer described his perspective on this new chapter of his career.
“I really believe this is kind of a rebirth, just getting back to my youth, with all the wisdom that I carry. (To) go in there without the weight of the world on my shoulders anymore. That’s all I wanted out of this, the simple joy of performing again,” Bon Jovi concluded.
Bon Jovi’s cautious approach stems from a significant health challenge. This challenge forced the band into an extended hiatus from regular touring activities.
AOL reported that the frontman underwent vocal cord surgery after the muscles began to atrophy following 40 years of singing. The procedure was necessary to repair damage that had accumulated over decades of performing at the highest level of rock music.
The recovery process has been longer and more complex than initially anticipated. This led to what AOL described as a six-year tour hiatus that sidelined the band from regular performances. This extended break marked one of the longest periods away from touring in the band’s storied career.
Despite the challenges, the band has officially announced their return with the Forever Tour. AOL noted that it kicks off July 7, 2026, at Madison Square Garden, with three more New York shows, then dates in the U.K. and Ireland. The announcement has generated massive excitement among fans who have been waiting years for the band’s return.
The band’s measured approach to their comeback reflects lessons learned from the recovery process. The Express revealed that Jon Bon Jovi was warned to take it easy even during recent public appearances, including his special appearance announcing the New England Patriots at the Super Bowl.
The band plans to return to full touring in 2027. They are prioritizing the artist’s complete recovery over immediate commercial opportunities.
