Bad Omens’ Jolly Karlsson recently shared some insights during a chat at Knotfest Australia about the band’s journey from being openers for other acts to becoming headliners and how the journey has been.
The band has gradually grown its fanbase, starting with opening for bands like Underoath, In This Moment, and A Day To Remember. After selling their first major headlining show, the band experienced a significant career turning point.
Jolly Karlsson’s words about transitioning from openers to headliners read:
“It’s awesome. It’s obviously really cool, and it’s been sporadic or whatever increasing since we released it, but then we’ve been busy the whole time. So, the way that I’ve seen it is more like an effect because we were opening all of last year for really good bands. We had Underoath, In This Moment, we had A Day To Remember, and then we did our own.
Then you could see it on, like even from Underoath, that people were f*cking with us, and it was like really cool, so we were like, ‘Oh, sweet,’ and then we saw the next tour, and it was even more and then we’re like, ‘Oh, something really cool is happening.’ Then we sold out our first real big headliner pretty quickly, and that’s when we’re like, ‘Jesus, what’s going on?'”
He added:
“It’s settling in nicely; we’re out here, and we’re just very focused. We’re just trying to do everything really good every day, and like everybody’s trying their very best, and we have for a long time, so it’s just really happy to see it pay off, and I’m really stoked that people like the songs that we’re writing.
Being able to headline this like our thing in the sense that we can really show what we’re about. We can bring out the full lights and the full shebang, so that’s what we are focusing on and trying to do so that people leave with that experience of like, ‘Shit, that was sweet. It sounded good, and that was cool to see.’ So yeah, love headlining.”
