John Mayer Clarifies Current Status Of His Struggle With ‘Ego Addiction’
John Mayer recently had a Q&A on his Instagram account during which he addressed his ego addiction issue and pointed out that he got over it, but he still has to be careful not to relapse.
Mayer is known for his musical talents, but his good looks and relationships always make it to the headlines, especially because the older he got, the younger women he started to date. These incidents created an environment for the singer to eventually form an ego that is hard to control.
In 2015, he gave an interview to ‘Today’ and revealed that his years of being known as a ladies’ man gave him an enormous ego, and he was trying to recover from that. Recently a fan asked him if his recovery has been successful, and Mayer replied by saying that he is doing his best to get over it and explained the techniques he applies in his life not to relapse.
Here is what Mayer said about being a recovering ego addict:
“Your 20s and 30s are like the hours between 8:00 pm and 11:00 pm on a weekend night. You’re kind of frantically hoping for the most validating plans to come through.
Your 40s are like 11:30 pm where you’re like ‘Hey, I would have been home anyway even if I had gone out.’ The pressure is off.”
He continued to address his ego addiction by stating:
“I’m a recovered ego addict, and the only way that I can be sure that I don’t relapse is to admit that I constantly have this ego addiction, every day. So I do the Grammys, and I go home because if I stay, I get high again.“
His surroundings, the media, and other celebrities continue to flatter his ego anyway, and that is probably why he needs life-changing techniques to get rid of it. A few months ago, Ruth Clapton posted a video of her singing John Mayer’s song ‘New Light’ and stated that he should stop posting ‘thirst traps.’
