System of a Down drummer John Dolmayan discussed the possibility of a new album in an interview with Lilian Tahmasian.

“I don’t know if I want [a new System album] at this point,” Dolmayan said. “There’s just too much drama involved.”

“I like going out and having a good time with my friends and playing shows,” he continued. “I don’t want that to disappear. There would have to be very strict guidelines for me to make another record with System again.”

The statement reflects the complex dynamics within the band. System of a Down has maintained a sporadic presence in the music scene since their last full-length releases.

A report from Blabbermouth highlights the band’s most recent studio work. They released two singles, ‘Protect The Land’ and ‘Genocidal Humanoidz,’ in 2020 during the conflict between Artsakh and Azerbaijan. These tracks marked their first new material in 15 years.

Bass player Shavo Odadjian has set high expectations for any future releases. He emphasized that a potential new album must be ‘amazing’ to uphold the band’s legacy of quality releases.

Louder Sound revealed vocalist Serj Tankian’s perspective on new material. He suggested that a new album would need a complete fresh start. The project could incorporate previously unreleased material he describes as ‘hidden gems.’

The band has performed live shows consistently since their 2011 reunion. However, they haven’t released any full-length albums since their 2005 releases ‘Mezmerize’ and ‘Hypnotize.’
