Former Mötley Crüe and Dead Daisies singer John Corabi has responded to the news of Glenn Hughes’ retirement from touring. The reaction comes nearly a month after Corabi was fired from the Dead Daisies, the band Hughes currently fronts.
Hughes’ retirement was announced via his official account, citing serious health concerns that require immediate medical attention.
“Glenn Hughes Announcement: Live Shows Cancelled. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Glenn Hughes announces his retirement from touring and live performances,” the statement read. “Upon his Doctor’s advice, Glenn will have to undergo heart surgery and has made the difficult decision to step back from live performances for the foreseeable future.”
Despite the circumstances surrounding his departure from the Dead Daisies, Corabi responded to the news with a message of goodwill toward his former bandmate.
“Love you brother, Glenn. Hope you have a great recovery,” Corabi said.
The comment reflects a gracious response from Corabi, setting aside any tension from his recent firing as he wishes Hughes well during what is expected to be a significant recovery period.
Hughes’ situation is more serious than a routine procedure. Doctors have advised him to undergo another open-heart surgery. The decision was informed by a battery of recent medical tests, including MRIs, CT scans, and an echocardiogram. Hughes addressed the gravity of the situation directly: “I really have no option and no choice as health is my number one priority.”
Earlier this year, Hughes had already cancelled The Chosen Years Tour, which had been scheduled to run from March 27 to May 10, citing a minor health issue at the time. The latest announcement makes clear that the situation has since become significantly more serious. All live shows are now cancelled for the foreseeable future.
The timing adds another layer of complexity to an already turbulent period for the Dead Daisies. Corabi parted ways with the band after four years, just weeks before Hughes’ retirement news broke. Hughes himself had previously quit the Dead Daisies in May 2023 after his own four-year run with the group. He rejoined for a performance on May 30, 2026, at the Arcada Theatre in St. Charles, Illinois. That reunion lasted only a matter of weeks before his health forced him off the stage again.
The Dead Daisies’ official statement on Corabi’s exit framed the split diplomatically. “It has come to our attention that John Corabi has decided to leave The Dead Daisies,” the band said. “We’d like to sincerely thank John for his incredible contribution to the band over the years and wish him nothing but success with his solo career and all his future endeavors.” The wording stood in contrast to widespread reports that Corabi had been fired rather than having chosen to leave.
Known as “The Voice of Rock,” Hughes has built a legacy spanning decades, with notable tenures in Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, and Black Country Communion, among others. His induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame cemented his standing as one of rock’s most celebrated vocalists. For now, the focus shifts entirely to his recovery, with the rock world watching and waiting.
