John 5 Picks Yngwie Malmsteen’s ‘Inspiring’ Guitar Instrumental

In a recent interview with Guitar Techniques, John 5 mentioned his favorite instrumentals that have inspired him. The rocker revealed that Yngwie Malmsteen‘s ‘Far Beyond The Sun’ is one of them and named a few other pieces from the musician.

Many consider Rob Zombie guitarist John 5 among the most inventive and versatile guitarists. His diverse playing style and adaptability have led him to work with many names from different genres, including David Lee Roth, Marilyn Manson, Avril Lavigne, Ozzy Osbourne, Scorpions, and others. Besides Rob Zombie, the guitarist has also pursued a remarkable solo career.

The guitarist released his latest solo album, ‘Sinner,’ in 2021 and then hit the road to support it with his band, The Creatures. John 5 and The Creatures’ recent ‘Sinner’ North American tour kicked off on April 21 in Roseville, California. The ongoing tour will end on July 11 in New York. Their audience also saw special guests like The Haxans, John 5’s bandmate from Rob Zombie, Piggy D, and Ash Costello of New Years Day.

During a recent interview, John 5 chose three guitar instrumentals that have inspired him during his musical journey. After picking Joe Satriani’s ‘Surfing With The Alien,’ and Steve Vai’s ‘The Audience Is Listening,’ the guitarist listed ‘Far Beyond The Sun’ from Yngwie Malmsteen as his last choice and described it as an ‘incredible’ guitar instrumental. The guitarist also recalled his ‘Trilogy’ among his favorite instrumentals that have inspired him.

“The last one, I would say ‘Far Beyond The Sun,’ by Yngwie Malmsteen. Incredible. It’s either that or ‘Trilogy,’ by Yngwie Malmsteen. I love those songs. They still inspire me today.

John 5 also talked about how his interest in guitar instrumental started during the same interview. The guitarist revealed that it first began with Van Halen’s ‘Eruption.’ Then, he listened to Roy Clark, Chet Atkins, and Edgar Winter. He was impressed that these songs didn’t include any singers, so they started it with guitar instrumentals for him.
