John 5 On Replacing Mick Mars: ‘A Really Nice Transition’

3 Min Read

In a recent interview, John 5 spoke with Mike Z about his experience joining Mötley Crüe and revealed Mick Mars’ reaction. Having spent a year as a touring guitarist for the band in 2022, John stepped in to fill the shoes of Mars in their lineup.

The original guitarist’s departure led to some debates and disputes in the following months, but the new band member mentioned that Mars actually supported him in taking over the role:

“It was such an easy transition, and I’m so thankful for the fans being so welcoming and kind. That means a lot to me because, of course, I’m a fan as well, and Mick has been very supportive with me. It’s just been a really nice transition.”

New Guitarist, New Album

After leaving the band, Mars focused on his solo career, working on his debut solo album, ‘The Other Side Of Mars.’ Meanwhile, Mötley Crüe started recording new music, including songs like ‘Dogs Of War,’ in early 2023.

Nikki Sixx announced that the band’s first album since 2008’s ‘Saints Of Los Angeles’ would be out in 2024. Bob Rock sat on the producer seat for the Crüe’s new record with John 5.

John 5 Is Happy With The New Songs

During the Mike Z interview, the 53-year-old guitarist expressed his thoughts about this upcoming album. He explained:

“It’s wonderful. I just listened to it again this morning, and I’m so like – Bob Rock! And it was cool because I haven’t recorded like this in such a long time. We all got in one room, and we were all playing at the same time and recorded that way, and that is so old school.”

Speaking of the recording sessions, he went on:

“You just don’t see that, and Bob Rock was going, ‘Oh, let’s try this and let’s try that.’ But it was so cool because we were all in one room. That’s just what made it so magical. You know, to have that experience and then to listen to the song. It’s really exciting! I can’t wait for people to hear it.”

The Band Will Take The Stage With Their New Member In 2024

The exact release date of Mötley Crüe’s new album has not been announced yet, but the band revealed plans to go on a tour in support of the upcoming record.

According to the scheduled dates for 2024, they will be performing at the Hard Rock Hotel Casino Atlantic City in New Jersey in May. On June 21, they will appear at Summerfest for the first time in ten years.
