Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry recently addressed the future of his supergroup Hollywood Vampires. He discussed the band’s chemistry, its 2026 European tour, and plans for new music in a conversation shared by InBoston.
Perry reflected on how the lineup — featuring Alice Cooper and Johnny Depp — solidified over time. He also spoke about the band’s approach to touring and recording, including prospects for a follow-up to their 2019 album “Rise.”
“The second album, it started to really feel like a band, because we started using a couple of guys from Alice’s band. So that became the solid band,” Perry said. “The drummer [Glen Sobel] and [guitarist] Tommy [Henriksen]. And then we brought in Buck Johnson, who plays for Aerosmith and also plays on some of my solo stuff. And then Chris Wyse, who used to play with The Cult, who’s a killer bass player. And we got the best of the best. And then the four of us are out there, and it’s a pretty good band.”
Perry went on to describe the band’s unconventional schedule and recent touring experience.
“But we don’t operate like a regular band. You’d think we would be on the road more, put out more records, but everybody has other things they do. It was almost three years since the last tour. And it was great getting back together [for the 2026 European run of shows]. And it took us a little while to get rolling. Our second gig was at the O2 Arena in London. We did probably five or six shows in U.K., and then we went over to the [rest of the European] continent and played some of the places we’d been playing,” he continued.
He also touched on why the band didn’t perform in the U.S. this time around, as well as plans for what’s next.
“And it just didn’t work out that we could play in the States. But I think the next time we go out, we’ll focus on playing in the States. And I think with the documentary [‘Unleashed Spirits: The Rise Of The Hollywood Vampires’], we’re talking about doing another album sometime after the first of the year. Johnny’s gonna be — I think he’s gonna have some space. So we’ll see — we’ll see what happens. We’ll just have to play it by ear,” Perry said.
Perry’s remarks come as Hollywood Vampires wrap up a busy 2026 that has kept the band firmly in the spotlight both on stage and on screen.
The band’s 2026 UK and Europe tour marked its first run of shows in nearly three years. The trek kicked off in London and eventually stretched across the continent through late summer and into September. Stops included arenas and outdoor venues in the UK, Germany, France, Italy, and beyond. The tour ultimately wrapped up with a string of dates in Central and Eastern Europe.
The run drew added attention when Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood joined Hollywood Vampires on stage at the tour’s kickoff show. The appearance gave fans an unexpected rock and roll crossover moment early in the European leg.
Alongside the touring, the band’s documentary, “Unleashed Spirits: The Rise of the Hollywood Vampires,” had its world premiere as the opening night film of the 42nd Annual Boston Film Festival on September 18 at the historic Boch Center Wang Theatre. The film was directed by Emmy winner Daniel E. Catullo III. It chronicles the band’s unlikely rise. It features Alice Cooper, Johnny Depp, Joe Perry, and Tommy Henriksen.
With the tour and documentary both behind them, Hollywood Vampires have not confirmed a timeline for their next album. Perry’s comments suggest new material could be on the way once the band’s individual schedules align.
