In a recent interview with Guitar Interactive Magazine, Slipknot guitarist Jim Root dampened expectations for new music. He cited exhaustion from touring and lack of inspiration as primary factors.

Root addressed the band’s progress on new material since drummer Eloy Casagrande joined the lineup. He explained how their intense touring schedule has affected the creative process.

“Not diligently. Honestly, we’ve been touring so much since Eloy joined the band that my inspiration is nearly zero,” Root said. “And there’s a bunch of music that was written during COVID that I’m not interested in. And I think everybody else in the band gets it too, and I think they’re kind of, like, ‘Okay, we need to just kind of, like, maybe sweep all that shit under a rug and start fresh.'”

Root then detailed his need for rest before beginning work on new material.

“I wanna get touring behind us. I wanna have at least a month off just to shut my brain off and sleep and all that kind of stuff. And then when I find myself going out to my little home studio and putting riffs together, then I’ll know it’s time to start,” he explained.

The band will complete their current touring commitments before considering work on new material.

Root’s statements might discourage fans. However, other developments in the Slipknot camp reveal a more complex picture of the band’s future plans.

A recent report from Kerrang highlighted fellow band member Shawn ‘Clown’ Crahan’s plans for a new album. This suggests multiple creative processes are running parallel within the group.

Loudwire revealed the band’s experimental project ‘Look Outside Your Window’ will release in 2025. The band recorded this project during sessions for their 2008 album ‘All Hope Is Gone.’

Chaoszine noted this experimental release stands separate from Slipknot’s main album cycle. This arrangement allows the band to explore different creative territories while maintaining their core sound.

Root’s current creative fatigue contrasts with these planned releases. This situation highlights the complex dynamics within Slipknot. Some members may need rest, yet the band continues to evolve and plan future projects.
