Jerry Cantrell recently addressed concerns about Alice in Chains’ future plans and the possibility of a new album. He shared disappointing news with fans in a statement to Cleveland.com.

The guitarist explained the band’s current situation and the challenges they’ve faced this year that have affected their planned activities.

“We’re just wrapping the ‘I Want Blood’ chapter, then I’ll take the winter off and see where we’re at,” Cantrell said. “We intended to work but had a little bit of a health scare with Sean (Kinney, drummer), so we had to cancel some shows.”

The band also faced additional setbacks with their touring plans.

“We also had a tour planned for, like, right now that kind of fell through,” he continued. “So we had some bad luck; we planned on doing much more this year, but it just didn’t work out.”

Cantrell indicated that the band will reassess their options in the coming months.

“We’ll take a look at it again probably early next year and figure out what we’re gonna do, whether go in and make another record or do some shows — or both,” he added.

Alice in Chains faces uncertainty, but Cantrell has been keeping busy with his solo career throughout 2025.

AXS TV reported that the guitarist launched his “I Want Blood” U.S. tour in August 2025. The tour includes stops in major cities like San Diego, Dallas, and Cleveland. The tour features support from ’90s rock band Filter, bringing together two generations of alternative rock for fans across the country.

Daily Fly noted that this tour reflects Cantrell’s continued creativity outside Alice in Chains. It follows his well-received solo album released late last year. The “I Want Blood” project showcases the guitarist’s signature style while exploring new musical territories independent of his work with the legendary grunge band.

Music MXDwn highlighted that Cantrell’s solo work continues to be characterized by raw melodies and intense guitar work that reinforces his enduring musical presence. This ongoing solo activity provides an outlet for his creativity while Alice in Chains navigates their current challenges.

The uncertainty surrounding Alice in Chains’ next album may disappoint fans who have been eagerly awaiting new material from the legendary grunge band. However, Cantrell’s active solo career ensures that his music continues to reach audiences while the band takes time to address their health concerns and reassess their future plans.
