Jay Jay French Addresses The Lasting Effect Of Twisted Sister’s Music

To still be relevant after being in the industry for 50 years is no small feat and not something that most bands in the heavy metal scene can accomplish. Songs and albums that have become cult classics made Twisted Sister stand the test of time. For guitarist Jay Jay French, the music they have created has lasted more than any of the guys could have dreamed of, as he recently revealed to Goldmine magazine.

“Twisted Sister’s music is the most licensed in heavy metal history. We’re in more TV shows, commercials, and movies than anybody else. The lasting effect of Twisted Sister’s music is undeniable,” emphasized French about their longevity as a heavy metal band. “You can go anywhere in the world and hear people of all ages singing ‘We’re Not Gonna Take It.’ It’s a worldwide anthem. And now ‘Oh Come All Ye Faithful’ is hot on its heels of it because of its ubiquitousness.”

Now that it’s Christmas time, Twisted Sister’s ‘A Twisted Christmas’ album is on the agenda again. French noted, “It doesn’t surprise me that it continues every year because it’s an excellent record, and it’s become a classic record. You can put ‘A Twisted Christmas’ up there with Mariah Carey, Elvis Presley, Nat King Cole, and all the other great Christmas albums, and we’re honored to be mentioned in that company. We did something that we thought was timeless and has remained timeless. And every Christmas, ‘A Twisted Christmas’ continues to sell, and I’m grateful for that.”

Even after 50 years in the business, they are still going strong. The musician said, “Twisted Sister is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, which is crazy when you look at the crop bands created in ’73 vs. who are remaining, let alone remembered. But if you had asked us back then how long we would last, we probably would have said, “Oh, I don’t know, maybe five years.” So, for our music to be here all these years later, stronger than ever, speaks volumes about what we created. And ‘A Twisted Christmas’ is just another part of that unique legacy.”

During this time of the year, if you’re looking for a heavier sound for your Christmas playlist and if by some chance you haven’t heard of ‘A Twisted Christmas,’ and you’re searching for a festive cheer to put a pep in your step, it’s a classic you wouldn’t want to skip.
