Jane’s Addiction band members have issued a joint statement addressing the events that led to the cancellation of their tour in September 2024. The statement was reported on Instagram. This marks a significant moment as the band clarifies their differences and announces their separation.

The band acknowledged that they made inaccurate statements about Perry Farrell’s mental health following an incident at their Boston show. In their statement, the members expressed regret for their actions. They explained their decision to end the tour.

“We would like to clarify the events surrounding the cancellation of the tour after the show in Boston in September 2024,” the band said. “After that show, without notice to Perry, we unilaterally determined it would be best to not continue the tour and made inaccurate statements about Perry’s mental health which we regret.”

The band emphasized their shared legacy and announced they have resolved their differences. This allows them to preserve Jane’s Addiction’s musical contributions.

“Today we are here to announce that we have come together one last time to resolve our differences, so that the legacy of Jane’s Addiction will remain the work the four of us created together,” they continued. “We now look forward to the future as we embark on our separate musical and creative endeavors. Jane’s Addiction will forever live in our hearts. We are proud of the music we created together. You, the fans, are our lifeblood, and we will always appreciate you.”

Perry Farrell also shared a separate statement. He addressed the incident directly and apologized for his behavior during the Boston performance.

“To everyone in Boston, and around the world. I’d like to address what happened on stage last year,” Farrell wrote. “I’ve reflected on it and know I didn’t handle myself the way I should have. I apologize to our patrons and my bandmates for losing my temper and for disrupting the show.”

Farrell reflected on the band’s significance and his commitment to delivering quality performances. He acknowledged that the band fell short in Boston.

“Jane’s Addiction has been at the center of my life for decades. The band, the songs, the patrons and the impact that we’ve had on music and culture mean more to me than any words I could ever possibly write down,” he said. “My aim has always been to give our audience the best possible show, something real, honest and positive. In Boston, we fell short of that, and I’m truly sorry to everyone who was impacted. From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank each and every one of you for your continued love and support.”

The statements signal the end of Jane’s Addiction as a collective unit. All members are moving forward on separate creative paths.

The September 2024 Boston show triggered the band’s breakup. It involved a physical altercation between Farrell and an audience member during the performance. An attendee climbed onto the stage or got overly close to Farrell, leading to a scuffle that was captured in video clips circulating online. The interaction showed Farrell pushing or striking the person before continuing with the performance, though accounts varied on whether the incident constituted a prolonged fight or a brief defensive reaction.

The immediate aftermath of the Boston show saw conflicting narratives emerge. Some attendees and local outlets framed Farrell’s actions as a defensive response to an onstage intrusion. Others criticized the reaction as excessive. The lack of widely confirmed reports of arrests or serious injuries meant that social media clips became the primary source of information. This led to varying public interpretations of what transpired. No major legal developments were widely reported following the incident. Coverage remained primarily local and confined to music-news sites and social platforms.

Farrell’s history of audience interaction during performances provided context for understanding the Boston incident. Live-concert scuffles when fans come onto the stage are not uncommon in the music industry. Farrell has long been known for his dynamic engagement with audiences during shows. However, the Boston incident proved to be a turning point for the band. The other members’ response—including their unilateral decision to cancel the tour and their initial statements about Farrell’s mental health—created a rift that would ultimately lead to the band’s dissolution.

The band’s recent joint statement represents a significant shift in how they are addressing the incident. By acknowledging that they made inaccurate statements about Farrell’s mental health and expressing regret for their actions, the members have effectively reframed the narrative surrounding the Boston show. This reconciliation, though it comes more than a year after the incident, allows the band to part ways on better terms. It preserves their legacy as a unified creative force rather than ending amid acrimony and misunderstanding.
