A Jane’s Addiction crew member has spoken out about the impact of the band’s cancelled tour on the working staff. This follows the recent legal disputes between band members. Guitar/Bass tech Dan Cleary shared his perspective on the situation in a statement posted on Instagram.
Cleary’s comments addressed how the tour cancellation affected the crew members who worked behind the scenes. He emphasized the professionalism of the crew despite the circumstances.
“Don’t forget about the Jane’s crew,” Cleary said. “We delivered every single night without fail. Perry took accountability on Instagram afterwards, what happened to that guy? This whole thing sucks for literally every single person involved. And yet I still love this band.”
The tech further elaborated on the financial impact the situation had on crew members who depend on touring work for their livelihood.
“I’m making jokes about Jane’s Addiction, but all kidding aside, a lot of people lost work because of what Perry Farrell did on stage,” he continued. “I know the focus of the lawsuit is the band members, but they had a world class crew behind them every night who also lost 5 weeks of work and future tours. You know, the people in one bedroom apartments with roommates.”
Cleary concluded by defending his colleagues and expressing his commitment to speaking up for crew members.
“So if Perry and Etty (who actually are incredibly generous people) want to play hardball with the band who lifted him up every night, they are also hurting their crew,” he said. “I will always speak up for the people I work with.”
The crew member’s statement highlights the broader impact of the band’s internal conflicts. These conflicts have escalated into a complex legal battle with significant financial implications.
American Songwriter reported that the lawsuit filed by Jane’s Addiction members against Perry Farrell seeks over $10 million in damages following the cancelled reunion tour. The legal action stems from the on-stage altercation between Farrell and guitarist Dave Navarro. This altercation forced the band to cancel the remaining dates of their highly anticipated reunion tour.
The lawsuit reveals additional details about the band’s preparation and commitment to the tour. Brooklyn Vegan noted that Dave Navarro had stopped receiving disability payments specifically to prepare for the reunion tour. This demonstrates the financial sacrifices band members made for the project. The legal documents also allege that Farrell was frequently intoxicated during performances. This impacted his ability to deliver consistent shows.
The timing of the tour cancellation was particularly damaging for the band’s future plans. Vinyl Me Please revealed that Jane’s Addiction had released new singles as part of their reunion campaign. They were working toward a forthcoming album. The band’s recording and touring plans now remain uncertain due to the ongoing legal dispute and the breakdown in relationships between the members.
Farrell and his wife Etty publicly acknowledged the situation following the incident. They expressed their commitment to seeking professional help. The personal toll of the conflict extends beyond the immediate financial losses. It affects not only the band members but also the dedicated crew members who had invested their time and energy into making the reunion tour successful.
