In a new interview with Total Guitar, Greta Van Fleet guitarist Jake Kiszka explained the public shift in the way the band is perceived. After receiving many comments for ‘resembling’ other bands, the rockers were ultimately admired. During the interview, Kiszka made it clear that the comments would never make them change their sound and approach:

“I think one major thing has culturally shifted in the journalistic approach to what we’re doing. One major factor of this being that we’ve stood our ground. We were going to do what we were going to do regardless. It’s not like we’re going to deviate from our approach, based on a few mere words that are brittle and fickle.”

The band has been accused of being Led Zeppelin wannabes due to their outfits, appearances, and music. However, the resemblance comments did not stop them from sticking around, and they are aware that the audience started to appreciate them as well. Following the same interview, Kiszka discussed the depth of their work and people ultimately realizing their potential:

“I think people have realized that we’re sticking around, and this is who we are. So, they now need to take a second crack at exploring the depth of what us guys are actually doing for our generation and for rock ‘n’ roll music.”

Greta Van Fleet’s Relationship with Led Zeppelin

Despite many ‘Led Zeppelin wannabes’ comments, the band members grew up not listening to rock music as opposed to what might have thought. Moreover, they did not grow up listening to Led Zeppelin either and rather listened to other genres during their earlier years. Apparently, they were more into genres such as classic, folk and blues instead of rock.
