Jack Bruce’s son Malcolm Bruce appeared in a new interview with VRP Rocks and revealed the unfulfilled wish that his father had about his and Eric Clapton’s band, Cream.
When asked if the Cream reunion shows were ‘closure’ for his dad in a way, Malcolm touched on the satisfaction the shows gave to his dad and the offers they got after certain shows, leading them to become bigger and gaining a greater amount of fans:
“I think we gave him an immense amount of satisfaction to do it. But I think if they carried on doing it… They were getting offers, apparently, after the Albert Hall in London and then the Garden in New York. After those shows they were getting big offers, I think. I believe like Tokyo, LA and whatever.”
Malcolm is sure that if his father was alive, he would have wanted to do one last thing with Eric Clapton and the band. Opening up about his father’s unfulfilled wish, he continued:
“I was there on the last night at Madison Square Garden and Ginger [Baker] and my dad had somehow managed to fall out. I think at that point, Eric probably went, ‘Ahhh!’ Moving on. So I think my dad, if it had been possible I think he would have liked to have done more shows and maybe even done some new record or something because they had something magical between the three of them.”
Jack Bruce Did Not Want to be Famous

While discussing being a world-renowned rock star, Malcolm clarified that though Cream became one of the most popular bands for a short amount of time, his father never really wanted to be the most famous person in the world, and rather wanted something else:
“But there was always a little part my dad wanted to be the rock star. So even when he was doing much more creative type of work, in the back of his mind he always wanted that. And I think he always wanted Cream to kind of come back together. Because why not? He knew that they would always get that kind of top-tier level of attention. I think Eric resisted it because I don’t think he wanted to do that.”
