A video capturing the Chief Minister of northeast India, Conrad Sangma, has surfaced and gone viral.
Sangma is the Chief Minister of Meghalaya in northeast India and a member of the National People’s Party, and as it has been revealed in the recent video, he is a heavy metal fan.
The recent video, shared by Sangma himself on his social media accounts, showed him soloing the Iron Maiden hit, ‘Wasted Years.’ The Chief Minister shared the video with the following description:
“Another rocking night… Iron Maiden this time.”
Other Politicians’ Love For Heavy Metal

While this may surprise you, Sangma is not the only metalhead who is also a politician. The Shadow Justice Secretary and East Leeds member of Parliament, Richard Burgon, spoke to Metal Hammer in 2016 about his love for heavy metal and balancing work life with his music career. He revealed that he often goes unrecognized unless he’s in his formal attire. According to him, being out of the typical job attire allows him to fully enjoy himself and become ‘truly immersed in it.’
Not only did he talk about balancing his work and music career, but he also shared his admiration for the genre:
“Metal is the best form of music for escapism, especially when you look at some of the stageshows at Download festival – it’s like going to the theatre, isn’t it? No matter what issues or struggles people might be facing, metal festivals give you an opportunity for that all-encompassing escapism because fans are so tied to the music and the camaraderie amongst the audience.”
