Iggy Pop Admits He Doesn’t Remember Hanging Out With Bon Scott

If the primary fuel of the rock world is good music, the secondary one is the rock and roll lifestyle. On another night fueled by alcohol, Iggy Pop met Bon Scott. But as he told the New York Times, they were both so drunk at the time that he couldn’t even remember the moment.

“I had some wonderful encounter with Bon somewhere, but we were both drunk and stoned,” he said, recalling the time he encountered the late AC/DC icon. “I see pictures sometimes. I go, I don’t remember, but that’s me with Bon. I loved what he did.”

The encounter occurred in 1977 at the Whiskey A Go Go in West Hollywood, a historic music venue. Many rock giants appeared there during their early careers, then recorded their live albums there, and it became one of the monumental places of rock music. AC/DC, Van Halen, Led Zeppelin, and the Doors are only some of the names that often popped by. Scott and Pop likely met on one of those legendary nights.

The duo crossed paths just three years before Scott’s untimely death. As you know, Bon Scott was found dead in his car in London when he was only 33 years old. It is known that the cause of death was alcohol intoxication. He lived such a fast life that, although his friends were heartbroken, the news of his death did not surprise many.

The surviving AC/DC members pondered on breaking up after Bon Scott passed away. However, it was ultimately agreed that their late bandmate would have wanted them to carry on, and with the Scott family’s support, the band recruited Brian Johnson as their replacement vocalist. The rest is history.
