A Canadian Quarter Horse named Pretty has captured the internet’s heart with her unique taste in music, particularly her love for heavy metal bands, including her favorite, Slipknot.
In the pastoral fields of Bogar Farms in Ontario, Canada, a 7-year-old Chestnut mare named Pretty has become an unlikely viral sensation. Her owner, Autumn Purdy, shared videos on TikTok of Pretty nodding and headbanging to heavy metal music, both in her stall and out in the pasture.
A Distinctive Taste In Music
Unlike your average racehorse, Pretty has shown a clear preference for the genre, reacting energetically to bands like Rammstein, Shinedown, Disturbed, Motörhead, Drowning Pool, and, notably, Slipknot.
Pretty’s love for metal music became evident when Purdy noticed her headbanging activities aligning with the beat of the music played. This phenomenon was consistent; the heavier the music, the more enthusiastic Pretty’s response. Purdy stated:
“Metal was her go-to headbanging music, and she loves it.”
Surprisingly, when the music shifts to softer genres such as country, Pretty’s interest wanes. This was demonstrated in a striking manner when a song by Morgan Wallen was played, prompting Pretty to turn away disinterestedly. However, the moment the tunes switched back to metal, like Pantera’s ‘Domination,’ Pretty was back at the front of her stall, headbanging with vigor. Purdy said:
“I looked to my barn manager and said, ‘Do you see what she’s doing?’ We turn the music off [and] she stops.”
She added:
“It’s incredible. No matter what song we play. Slow jams; she’s slow. Heavy songs, she’s going with the beat.”
Viral Sensation And Music Reviews
The internet’s fascination with Pretty has not only made her a star on TikTok but also caught the attention of major news outlets like CNN. Purdy has seized this opportunity to introduce weekly music reviews on TikTok, where Pretty’s reactions—ranging from intense headbanging to disinterest—are used to rate songs. These reviews have sparked a considerable following, eager to see which tracks earn Pretty’s approval.
Pretty isn’t the only animal to show an affinity for heavy metal. A large dog named Storm made headlines last year for sneaking into a Metallica concert at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. Metallica themselves acknowledged Storm’s unexpected appearance, humorously noting her enjoyment of songs like ‘Barx Æterna,’ ‘Master of Puppies,’ and ‘The Mailman That Never Comes.’
