Paramore’s Hayley Williams recently reflected on the band’s old music in a chat with WWD. The singer recalled a track from their third album ‘Brand New Eyes’ that made her look at their previous lyrics differently. She expressed:

“Every now and then, we’ll play a song and I’ll be really present, not only the being with people aspect, but I’ll be really listening to the lyrics, I’ll be like, ‘Oh my god, I can’t believe I can’t believe I wrote this.’ I remember we were playing a song called ‘Misguided Ghosts,’ which was on our third album, and it’s one of my favorites because I think it reflects some of the music that we were listening to more in our acoustic [stage].”

She added that listening to ‘Misguided Ghosts’ brought up emotions and proved to her that Paramore is here to stay. She said:

“And we were playing it somewhere, and it was the first time that I really paid attention to what I was saying in a long time, and it was so emotional. I just felt like, ‘God, man, we’ve been through so much as a band. We should not still be here. There’s no reason that we should still be here.’ I joke all the time that we’re like a cockroach. We just won’t die. I’m so grateful.”

Although Hayley compared the band to a cockroach that won’t die, the singer was recently forced to cancel Paramore’s shows after suffering a lung infection. The cancellation brought some backlash against the singer, with some calling Hayley weak and a ‘whiney, hypocrite c*nt’. However, before canceling the final two shows, Williams took to Instagram and wrote:

“Hey everybody, we just got off stage in Seattle. After speaking with our team and my doc, I know that trying to finish this tour is now going to come at a detriment to my health. My lungs are just not healing quickly enough to keep up. It got a little scary tonight.”
