Cro-Mags frontman Harley Flanagan said the band is nearly finished recording its next album, which he expects to come out early next year, speaking on WSOU 89.5 FM.
Flanagan discussed the progress of the songwriting and recording sessions for the follow-up to the band’s 2020 album ‘In The Beginning.’ He outlined the current state of the material and what listeners can expect from the new record.
“We’re almost done with the new album,” Flanagan said. “So we have something that should be [released], I’d say, early next year. I don’t know when exactly. But we got nine songs tracked [and] six more songs written that we’re gonna be tracking in a couple weeks… I always try to get a couple of extra in there, so six will probably turn into eight.”
Flanagan described the musical influences that shape the Cro-Mags sound. “It’s everything I grew up on,” he continued. “I’m always evolving, but it’s all those same ingredients. I mean, you got some Motörhead, you got some Bad Brains, you got some Discharge, you got all that stuff whipped up, some [Black] Sabbath. Everything heavy that I grew up listening to has always found a way to sneak into my music. All those things.”
Flanagan spoke about the band’s upcoming album during an interview on the radio station.
The new Cro-Mags album marks the band’s next chapter after ‘In The Beginning’ in 2020. Flanagan has been working on the new material with Sepultura drummer Greyson Nekrutman and acclaimed producer Arthur Rizk. Drummer Pete Hines, who played on the band’s 1989 album ‘Best Wishes,’ has officially rejoined the lineup for the recording sessions.
Before the new studio album arrives, Cro-Mags will release another project on November 13, 2026. ‘The Age of Quarrel: 40 Years of Quarrel’ is a complete re-recording of their landmark 1986 debut album ‘The Age of Quarrel.’ The re-recording features former bandmates Doug Holland and Rocky George, as well as members connected to modern Cro-Mags acolytes Turnstile and Rise Against.
The band signed with BLKIIBLK, the heavy metal imprint of Frontiers Label Group, to release their new material. Cro-Mags released their first new song in six years, “Wired For Chaos,” in June 2026, which will appear on the upcoming album.
