Gus G has shared his first public statement after being announced as the new guitarist for King Diamond. He replaces longtime band member Andy La Rocque.
The guitarist addressed the news directly, thanking fans for their support and acknowledging the significance of stepping into La Rocque’s role.
“Hey, all. Gus here. I just want to make a quick video to talk about the news the past couple of days. As you might have seen, I’m the new guitar player in King Diamond’s band,” he said. “And my phone has been blowing up with messages and calls and texts from friends and fans, and on socials, of course, everywhere. So I just wanna send a shout-out and thank you all for the messages of love, encouragement, support. It means a lot.”
Gus G went on to express his gratitude toward King Diamond and addressed any concerns fans may have had about the transition.
“I wanna thank the King for inviting me to his band and for choosing me. It’s a big, big honor for me. I’m a fan just like you guys. I understand there might be some concern. It’s a shock. I understand that. Andy La Rocque is a legend. And it’s gonna be an honor stepping into his shoes. He’s a buddy of mine, and he even sent me a message wishing me well,” he continued.
He also looked ahead to what the new chapter holds, including the prospect of new music.
“And I’m gonna bring my own vibe into it and, of course, honoring the music, which I’m so excited about playing on stage for you all. And I’m also equally excited, if not more, about creating new music together with the King and the band and finally get this album going. So there’s a lot of cool things down the line. And just stay tuned, man, and exciting times ahead. See you all soon,” he added.
The announcement marks one of the most significant lineup changes in King Diamond’s history. Gus G joins not merely as a touring musician but as a full creative partner. He will compose, record, and tour with King Diamond going forward. Work on new music has already begun. The band also confirmed that Gus G will face no restrictions on his other commitments. Careful planning will allow him to continue his work with Firewind and his solo project alongside his new role.
Gus G is best known internationally for his tenure as Ozzy Osbourne’s guitarist, as well as his leadership of Greek heavy metal band Firewind. His appointment brings a high-profile and technically accomplished presence into a band long defined by its distinctive sound and theatrical identity.
Andy La Rocque’s departure closes a chapter stretching back to the band’s very formation. He co-founded King Diamond in 1985 following the split of Mercyful Fate. His exit after more than four decades stands as one of the most consequential changes the band has ever undergone. His influence on the band’s catalog and sound is deeply embedded in its history.
King Diamond welcomed the new chapter publicly, saying: “It’s a big honor for me to welcome Gus G. as our new guitarist, who will compose with us, record with us and tour with us in the future.”
Gus G’s addition to King Diamond marks a significant shift for the band, with fans and the music community closely watching what comes next.
