Jake Kiszka of Greta Van Fleet has announced the formation of his new band Mirador alongside Ida Mae’s Chris Turpin. He released their debut single “Feels Like Gold” as shared on Instagram.
The guitarist provided insight into the creative vision behind the new project and its inaugural release.
“After much time and remarkable anticipation, ‘Feels Like Gold’ is finally here,” Kiszka said. “This first single track from Mirador embodies a story of fate and faith – a journey of strangers to a new world in search of something greater than themselves.”
He elaborated on the musical elements that define the track’s sound.
“With its soaring riffs, bombastic drumming, and electrifying bass, ‘Feels Like Gold’ is a sonic explosion that precisely captures the essence of this epic tale,” he continued. “There’s much more to come, I hope it moves you.”
This new venture represents a significant expansion of Kiszka’s artistic expression beyond his work with Greta Van Fleet. It showcases a different dimension of his musical capabilities.
Loudwire reported that Mirador marks a departure from Kiszka’s usual role as guitarist. He also takes on lead vocals in the band. The duo is described as a modern rock ‘n’ roll project rooted in rock, blues, and traditional folklore. They create what they call “a vibrant new mythology” through their music.
Blabbermouth confirmed that the band’s self-titled debut album is scheduled for release on September 19 via Republic Records. The project channels what Kiszka and Turpin describe as “an unspoken mysticism found in traditions tracing back to folklore about the crossroads, soul bargains, and epic tales.” They blend these ancient themes with a fresh, original sound.
The thematic depth of “Feels Like Gold” extends beyond its musical elements. Melodic Magazine noted that the song explores complex themes of conquest, imperialism, cultural collisions, and hope beyond violence. It reflects a sophisticated historical backdrop while delivering a message of unity.
Mirador has already begun building their live presence. They made their debut supporting Greta Van Fleet on the 2024 Starcatcher World Tour. The duo performed “Feels Like Gold” and other tracks to enthusiastic audiences. Their spring tour concluded in May 2024, marking a promising start for this new musical venture.
