Ghost resurrected their ‘Phallos Mortuus’ sex toy merch, initially launched in 2013 alongside their ‘Infestissumam’ album, for one final release.
Originally released a decade ago, the ‘Phallos Mortuus’ set included a bible box case with gold embossed artwork and red velvet lining, a nod to the band’s frequent use of religious themes.
The collection gained notoriety for its inclusion of a bronze-effect metal butt plug with a molded Grucifix logo base and a silicone dildo resembling Papa Emeritus II, adding a provocative edge to band merchandise. Last October saw the 10th-anniversary reissue of this infamous set, which sold out rapidly.
What’s Inside The Box
Priced at $225 and limited to two per customer, the latest edition of the box set, dubbed the ‘Phallos Mortuus – X Anniversary Edition,’ features the original adult toys — the Papa Emeritus dildo and the bronze butt plug — each with detailed specifications for the curious.
The set is presented in a bible box case, complete with a ‘divorce paper scroll with a customized Ghost foil emblem’ and a Ghost brushed metal logo pin, blending the band’s signature aesthetic with a touch of irreverence.
Ghost’s Philosophy On Merchandise
A Nameless Ghoul from Ghost shared with Metal Hammer in 2017 the band’s view on merchandise, stating:
“As a band, you’re basically a travelling shop. Selling whatever you can to make money. Hopefully, most of our merchandise is good, although occasionally something slips through – a shitty keyring or something! But, sometimes, you just have to have fun with a dildo! We do want to release more offbeat merchandise… but I can’t tell you about it.”
Ghost is not the only band to venture into bespoke adult toys. Others, like Mötley Crüe, NOFX, and GWAR, have also released their own themed sex toys, ranging from vibrators to inflatable dolls and dildos, each adding a unique twist to band merchandise that goes beyond the typical t-shirts and posters.
