Ex-Queensrÿche singer Geoff Tate recently provided an update on his highly anticipated third installment of the ‘Operation: Mindcrime’ series. He shared details about the album’s progress and expected release timeline in an interview with Talkin’ Rock with Meltdown.

Tate discussed the current status of the recording process and the challenges of coordinating the final mixing stages.

“It’s all recorded. We’re just doing the mixing stage of it right now,” Tate said. “With [producer and Disturbed bassist] John [Moyer] touring and me touring, it’s a bit of a challenge to get us in one place so we can actually confer and listen to the music and make mix notes. So we have to kind of line it up where we have several days that we can devote to it. So that’s coming up very soon. So we hope to be finishing it up and releasing it this summer.”

The singer also revealed the unique perspective that will drive the narrative of this final chapter.

“‘Operation: Mindcrime III’ will tell the tale from the perspective of Dr. X, how the story happened from his point of view,” he continued. “Which is kind of interesting, I think, because we’ve only heard it from Nikki’s point of view, and he’s been sort of this victim throughout the whole story. And Dr. X’s perspective is completely different, ’cause he’s not the victim at all. So it’s very aggressive, and, yeah, I’m looking forward for people to hear it.”

The upcoming album release coincides with Tate’s extensive touring plans that will bring the Operation: Mindcrime saga to a definitive close.

Blabbermouth reported that Tate plans to follow a track-by-track release strategy. The first single is expected within days. Additional singles are planned over the next year before a complete package release. This approach will allow fans to experience the album’s narrative progression gradually while building anticipation for the full conceptual work.

The album continues the complex storyline of Nikki, a drug addict-turned-assassin who becomes manipulated by the mysterious Dr. X character. Geoff Tate’s official website confirmed that this third installment represents the final chapter in the band’s classic ‘Operation: Mindcrime’ album series. It brings the conceptual story to its ultimate conclusion.

The album’s release timing aligns perfectly with Tate’s “Operation: Mindcrime – The Final Chapter” tour. J Rock’s Metal Zone detailed that the tour includes 2026 U.S. dates and a special March 28 festival performance in Germany. This tour gives fans what Tate describes as their last opportunity to experience the iconic Operation: Mindcrime album series in a live setting.

The collaboration with producer John Moyer, known for his work as Disturbed’s bassist, adds another layer of musical depth to the project. Despite the scheduling challenges posed by both artists’ touring commitments, the partnership promises to deliver the aggressive sound that Tate envisions for Dr. X’s perspective on the Mindcrime saga.
