Gene Simmons recently revealed that KISS is actively recording new music despite their retirement from touring. He shared this update in an interview with KISSbySienna.
The KISS bassist addressed what the band has been up to since ending their touring career. When asked about his activities since KISS retired from touring, Simmons provided insight into the band’s current projects.
“Oh, goodness. A lot. Well, KISS is in the studio now,” Simmons said. “So we just recorded a new song, as a matter of fact, that Paul [Stanley, KISS guitarist/vocalist] wrote. I can’t tell you more about it. And that’ll be coming out at some point.”
Simmons also discussed his other ventures beyond music.
“And May 1st, which is right around the corner, we have a Simmons Hamilton Films. It’s my film company,” he continued. “We have a motion picture called Deep Water that’s going to be in 2,500 movie theaters across America. It stars Sir Ben Kingsley, Aaron Eckhart, directed by Renny Harlin, who did one of the Die Hard movies, you know, big big action adventure film. Every day is full.”
This revelation comes after KISS concluded their extensive farewell tour. It marks a new chapter for the legendary rock band as they continue creating music in the studio.
Swim Into The Sound reported that KISS wrapped up their “End of the Road” world tour in December 2023 after over 250 shows spanning four years since its launch in 2019. The tour concluded with final performances at Madison Square Garden on December 1-2, 2023. This brought an end to the band’s live touring career.
This wasn’t KISS’s first attempt at a farewell tour. Wikipedia documents that the band previously staged their first “Farewell Tour” from March 2000 to April 2001. The tour featured original member Ace Frehley. However, that tour didn’t mark the end of KISS as promised. The band continued performing for over two decades afterward.
The 2000 farewell tour experience was particularly challenging for the band members. Parade revealed that Paul Stanley later described feeling “miserable” during that first farewell tour. This ultimately prompted the band’s quick return to active touring.
Biography noted that the recent End of the Road tour featured Stanley and Simmons as the only remaining original members. Drummer Eric Singer and guitarist Tommy Thayer completed the lineup. The new KISS song will be released at an undetermined date. This marks the band’s continued creative output following their farewell tour.
