Recently speaking to Pollstar in an interview, Rush’s Geddy Lee revealed his ambition to return to music creation, emphasizing his urgency to pursue new musical endeavors before it’s too late.
The bassist mentioned his following plans, saying:
“I have some big decisions to make, and I’m pondering. I would like to get back to writing music and see where that takes me. I would like to do some things in music before I shut the door on that option. So I just need some time now.”
The Intense Final Stretch

Referring to dedicating three years to his new book ‘My Effin’ Life,’ Lee added:
“I spent almost three years working on this book, and the last two months were fairly intense, traveling every day and being in all these different cities and talking so much. I just need a period where I’m not talking so much and doing more thinking than talking.”
A Respectful Remembrance

Despite his seasoned career as a performer, the musician faced new challenges during his ‘My Effin’ Life In Conversation’ book tour, including the anxiety of appearing on stage without his bass guitar for the first time. His memoir offers a journey through his life and career. Lee’s book delves into personal struggles, the intricacies of band dynamics, and the impact of losing Neil Peart to brain cancer in 2020.
In a Classic Rock discussion about his autobiography, Lee expressed the delicate balance he sought to maintain in respecting Peart’s privacy and the privacy of his family, revealing:
“Carrie [Peart’s wife] and Olivia [his daughter] are going to read it. So, I didn’t want to betray any confidence, but at the same time, I think it was appropriate to describe the difficulty of that three-and-a-half-year period. It was difficult for me, and I was just his friend; I wasn’t part of his family. And it was a nightmare for them, what they had to live with on a daily basis.”
The book tour itself became a memorable experience for fans, featuring surprise guest hosts like Paul Rudd, Jack Black, and even Rush co-founder Alex Lifeson. The tour, coupled with Lee’s select appearances since Rush’s last tour in 2015, marked a significant moment for both Lee and his fans, rekindling the in-person connection that has been a hallmark of his long career.
