Geddy Lee recently discussed the possibility of new Rush music featuring drummer Anika Nilles. He shared his thoughts in an interview with Music Radar.

The Rush frontman addressed his plans for creating new music and the potential for collaboration with bandmate Alex Lifeson and new drummer Anika Nilles following their upcoming 2026 tour.

“My intent, before we got into this celebration of Rush’s history, was to put some music together,” Lee said. “Now, I assumed I would be doing that on my own, not with Alex, but when we started jamming, I started seeing the possibility of doing something with Alex — but all of that went on hold now because there’s too much work.”

Lee explained that their current tour commitments have temporarily shelved any immediate recording plans.

“There’s too much work to do for this tour to even think about that,” he continued. “But if we manage to survive the tour, and go back to Canada and have a rest, who knows what’ll happen, but I suspect some music will eventually come out.”

Lee expressed enthusiasm about exploring the potential involvement of new drummer Anika Nilles and her creative capabilities.

“It would be fun to see what [Anika Nilles] can do in a creative situation,” he said. “Like, that would be fun. But it’s all speculation until it isn’t, so…”

The comments come as Rush prepares for their highly anticipated return to the stage. This marks a significant moment in the band’s storied career.

Blabbermouth reported that Rush’s 2026 tour, dubbed the “Fifty Something” tour, will kick off June 7 at The Kia Forum in Los Angeles. The shows will feature an “evening with” format, presenting two sets per night drawn from a 35-song catalog that spans the band’s extensive discography.

The tour announcement generated massive fan response. Blunt Magazine noted that initial dates sold out instantly, prompting the band to expand the run into fall with additional sold-out shows scheduled in major cities including Chicago, New York, and Toronto. The overwhelming demand demonstrates the enduring appeal of Rush’s music and the excitement surrounding their return with new drummer Anika Nilles.

Audilous revealed that Rush will release a Grace Under Pressure super deluxe edition on March 13, marking the 40th anniversary of their 1984 album. The comprehensive reissue features a 2025 remaster of the original album, a new mix by longtime producer Terry Brown, and a complete live show recorded at Toronto’s Maple Leaf Gardens from the album’s original tour.

The Grace Under Pressure reissue represents another chapter in Rush’s ongoing celebration of their musical legacy. It provides fans with enhanced versions of classic material while the band prepares for their return to live performance. The timing of both the reissue and tour suggests a coordinated effort to honor Rush’s past while potentially setting the stage for new creative endeavors once their touring commitments conclude.

The comments suggest that new Rush material remains a possibility once the band completes their 2026 headline tour. This offers hope to fans eager for fresh music from the legendary Canadian trio.
