Gary Holt Believes Slayer Are Done Despite Kerry King’s Regret

Exodus’ Gary Holt revealed his vote of no trust on Slayer reunion during a guitar clinic at Pitbull Audio. When the guitarist was asked his opinion on whether Slayer would ever get together again, he stated that the matter is above him, and he gave his negative opinion:

“Ah, man. You’ve gotta talk to other people. That’s outta my pay grade. Look, if anybody ever asked me to do it, of course, I’d be down to do it. But I don’t think it’s ever gonna happen. I think the band’s ended. Unlike all the other farewell tours that started five years ago and are still continuing, I think this one’s over.”

Ever since the band disbanded in 2019, there has been an ongoing debate on whether it was really the time for the group, or would they ever reunite. Group members were vocal about their opinions as well. In January, Kerry King expressed his feelings about the situation and said the break-up came before its time:

“Anger… what else? It was premature. The reason I say ‘premature’ is because my heroes from my childhood are still playing! I can still play, I still want to play, but that livelihood got taken away from me.”

He also stated that ‘no Slayer’ affected both fans, and the group members:

“Slayer means a lot to our fans, and they mean a lot to us. I know I will see these people again, but no Slayer leaves a big hole for a lot of people.”

Other members, however, weren’t on the same page with King. On a separate interview, former Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo shared his opinions and said a renuion would be inconvenient for the fans:

“I don’t even go down that path. I don’t see it ever happening. If they ever do decide to come back, they’re going to piss off a lot of fans because, man, they really hyped that farewell tour. They’re going to have to be very careful on how they approach that. But who cares? The fans will be happy regardless. So, I don’t even think about that.”

In another interview, when he was asked if he would return for a possible reunion, he said:

“I don’t think that’s ever going to happen. But, yeah, I’d listen to whatever it is they had to say. That’s it; you can’t go any further than that.”
