Former Beatles Drummer Admits He Attempted Suicide After Ringo Starr Replaced Him

Former Beatles drummer Pete Best recalled when he got fired from the band, and Ringo Starr became the band’s new drummer during his recent interview with Express and confessed that he wanted to kill himself.

As you may know, The Beatles’ original line-up consisted of lead vocalist John Lennon, bassist and co-lead vocalist Paul McCartney, guitarist George Harrison, and drummer Pete Best. After playing with them for more than two years, the Beatles manager, Brian Epstein, fired Pete Best because the other members didn’t want him in the band.

The news that Best left the band and was replaced by Ringo Starr stayed on the headlines for many years. However, the actual reason behind his departure from the Beatles remained unknown. Some people close to the band claimed that Pete Best was too conventional and handsome to be a Beatle, while others stated he wasn’t a talented drummer.

In his interview, Pete Best confirmed that he was so devastated about his departure from The Beatles that he committed suicide. He thought that he lost everything and would always be remembered as the person who got fired from one of the most famous rock bands in the world. Also, he blamed himself for not being good enough, which was the main reason for his suicide attempt.

Best recalled these times saying:

“You should never ask someone who has tried to take their own life why they did it. I don’t know why I did it. All I know is my mother, and my brother Rory found me.

My mother gave me such a talking to, and I vowed I would never do anything like that again. And I never will. You’re the Beatle who got kicked out because you were crap. So there’s always been a point where I’ve had to prove myself.”

Fortunately, Pete Best’s suicide attempt failed. He continued his life and career as a successful drummer by accepting what happened between him and the other Beatles members and moving on.
