Current Foreigner vocalist and guitarist Luis Maldonado has addressed the band’s decision to revive a decades-old track.

In a recent fan update, Maldonado responded to a query about adding more old tracks to their set list. He revealed that the band has risked controversy by bringing back their 1980 single “Women” — a track previously criticized for its sexist lyrics, which include the lines: “Women who satisfy, women you can’t buy / Women that stab you in the back with a switchblade knife.”

When asked about expanding the set list with songs from across Foreigner’s catalog, Maldonado was candid about the band’s approach.

“[W]e are trying to add more songs in the set from all Foreigner albums,” Maldonado said. “For instance, we just performed ‘Women’ and we had a blast!!”

He went on to explain the reasoning behind the decision to dust off the previously unplayed track.

“It was never before performed live and we felt, why not?” he continued.

The revival of “Women” marks the first time the song has been played live, despite its controversial reputation. No further comment has been made regarding the sexism accusations surrounding the track.

“Women” originally appeared on Foreigner’s 1980 album Head Games. The same record produced “Urgent,” one of the band’s most enduring and recognizable hits. The album marked a transitional period for the group, leaning into a harder, more commercially polished sound that would define their early 1980s output.

Maldonado joined Foreigner in 2024 as lead vocalist, stepping into the role previously held by long-time singer Kelly Hansen. Since taking over, he has been credited with bringing renewed energy to the band’s live performances while staying true to the classic rock identity that built Foreigner’s legacy.

The band is currently active on the road with a confirmed 2026 tour schedule. Fans across multiple dates will have the opportunity to hear the expanded set list — including the newly revived “Women” — performed live.

A fresh frontman, an ambitious touring schedule, and a willingness to dig deeper into the catalog signal that Foreigner is not simply coasting on nostalgia. Whether the decision to bring back a song with such a charged history proves to be a bold creative move or a recurring point of debate remains to be seen.
